Trash and Recovery

A deleted document doesn’t disappear immediately. It moves to the trash and remains there for seven days; the deadline is visible next to each line.

You can open the trash using the button next to the document list header or by going to the address /app/trash. You can return to the list using the arrow above the list.

Why There Is a Trash

Deleting a document is a permanent loss of data that you have paid for. The most common reason for deletion is an error — an accidentally checked line during a bulk action or a document that someone thought was a duplicate.

Immediately after deletion, a message with a Restore button appears in the list, which returns the document to where it came from without opening the trash.

Recovery

In the trash, you check the lines and choose to restore them. It will ask which folder to return the document to: the original will be offered if it still exists and is not archived. When selecting from multiple documents, the offer starts with those unfiled. If the original folder has disappeared in the meantime, the trash will inform you next to the line along with its name.

The restored document returns with everything — data, findings, tags, and activity logs. No credit is deducted for the restoration.

Permanent Deletion

This can be done in two ways: individually per line, or by clicking the empty trash button. Both methods ask for confirmation and are final. After emptying, neither the original nor any read data will remain.

Documents in the trash count towards your storage quota until you empty the trash. Anyone freeing up space by deleting must also empty the trash.

Accounting documents often have a legal retention period. ParseDoc is not an archive, so your accounting system is responsible for adhering to the retention period — the trash does not handle this.

Automatic Cleanup

After seven days, the trash will empty itself. The countdown is shown next to each line, rounded up; "1 day left" means the document will still be there for some time.

The retention period according to the tariff also applies in the trash. A document that expires sooner than seven days will disappear sooner.

Shared Folders

A host with full access can delete a document from a shared folder, but can only restore it from the trash if they are the owner — the trash belongs to them.
